National Privacy Principles
The National Privacy Principles established by the Privacy Act 1988 apply to TRA.
What Is Personal Information?
Personal Information is information or an opinion about an individual whose identity is apparent
or can reasonably be ascertained from the information or opinion. Personal Information does include Sensitive Information.
What Is Sensitive Information?
Sensitive information is information or an opinion about an individual's racial or
ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious
beliefs or affiliations, philosophical beliefs, membership of a professional or trade
association, membership of a trade union, sexual preferences or practices, criminal record
or health information about an individual.
Personal Information Collected And Held?
Personal Information that is collected and held may fall into the following categories:
- By direct submission of a resume, completion of an application form or during telephone conversations;
- Work performance information - from referees, or enquiries made to previous employers or colleagues;
- By searching publicly available information;
- Information relating to incidents in the workplace;
- Staff information;
- Information submitted and obtained in relation to absences from work due to leave, illness or other causes;
- Information obtained to assist in managing client and business relationships.
Purposes For Which Personal Information Is Held
TRA holds Personal Information for the following purposes:
- Recruitment;
- Placement Option;
- Staff Management;
- Training;
- Client and Business Relationship Management;
- Marketing.
How is Personal Information Stored?
TRA stores any Personal Information collected in a secure database.
Disclosures
TRA may disclose your Personal Information for the purposes for which it is primarily
held or for a related secondary purpose. In some cases we may only disclose information with your consent.
We may disclose your Personal Information where we are under a legal duty to do so, including circumstances
where we are under a lawful duty of care to disclose information. Your Personal Information may
also be disclosed to the following:
- TRA Employees;
- TRA Agents, Contractors and Professional Advisors;
- Referees during the process of obtaining a reference.
Access To Personal Information
- Subject to some exceptions that are set out in the National Privacy Principles, you have the right to request access to the Personal Information that we hold about you.
- We do refuse access if it would interfere with the privacy rights of other persons or if it could breach any confidentiality that attaches to that information.
- If you wish to obtain access to your Personal Information you should contact your Privacy Coordinator. Proof of identity must be provided.
